In the morning we'll be visiting both the British Museum and the Imperial War Museum London.
The Opus Click™ multimedia guide at the British Museum takes in the highlights of the permanent collection and has the option of also covering the Parthenon. The screen on the unit is used to display images of the objects to assist in locating them in busy rooms.
The IWM audioguide has been designed to be a very personal tour and really tries to explore how conflict shapes lives, looking at the people behind the weapons. Both the general audience and family tour are impressive, providing masses of audiovisual archive content, 'eyewitness' accounts, interactive games and much more.
Then in the afternoon we'll visit the National Trust's Osterley House to discover more about their new audio and video guides.
Visitors to Osterley House are now able to peruse the interior of the neo-classical house whilst using a handheld Orpheo Neo video guide to direct them. Characters on their screens highlight various points of interest and will also talk about life in the house over 200 years ago.
In addition to a main tour there is a family tour and a specialist BSL tour for hearing impaired visitors. To further increase access for visitors with specific needs there is also an audio tour for visually impaired guests.
We'll also take a look at the Download Centre™ at Osterley House which gives visitors the option of downloading the tours onto their own mobile phone or MP3 player if they prefer.
This one-day study tour is an essential event for anyone interested in installing or replacing an audioguide system at their museum, gallery or heritage site. Places are limited to 12 and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
