What to expect on the day:
e start our Study Day at the Victoria & Albert Museum where, over coffee, you'll hear from their Multimedia Manager Eric Bates about their latest projects and installations. You'll then have a chance to take a closer look at some of the exhibits and question key members of the V&A team.
We then move on to the Science Museum for lunch. Dave Patten - Head of New Media - will then present an overview of the latest developments in museum exhibits from around the world. After which you'll get a guided tour of the Science Museum interactives followed by an extended Q&A session with Dave and others from the Science Museum.
Our next stop is the Natural History Museum for the final part of the day. Here Ailsa Barry - their Head of Interactive Media - introduces some of their latest interactive exhibits and will be on hand to answer your questions and provide practical advice.

Eric Bates is Multimedia Manager for the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. Eric graduated from Maidstone College of Art, where he studied Fine Art, followed by an MA in Printmaking at Brighton University and later an MSc in Computer Graphics at Middlesex University. Eric worked for Cogapp as a senior designer/project manager between 1997 and 2003. From 2003 to 2007 whilst still working freelance for Cogapp he divided his time between producing, design & digital video and lecturing at Brighton University. Eric became the Multimedia Manager at the Victoria and Albert Museum in April 2007 and is now responsible for the museums Multimedia interpretation.
Dave Patten is Head of New Media at the Science Museum, London. His job involves all aspects of new media and AV from conceptual design, prototyping and production to project managing external developers & production companies. Dave manages a team called the New Media group and is currently working: The next generation of Antenna - the museum's science news exhibition; Health Matters - exhibition upgrade; and proposals for new permanent and temporary exhibitions at the Science Museum. At the moment Dave is particularly interested in innovative forms of interactive media, electronic signage & user generated content.
Ailsa Barry is Head of Interactive Media at the Natural History Museum, London. Ailsa began developing newmedia installations for museums in 1992 before joining Microsoft Network as a content producer. She joined the BBC in 1998 and became Managing Editor for BBC Online Production in 1999. Joining Vizzavi in 2001 as Head of Content, Ailsa was responsible for developing content strategies across web platforms. In 2003 she joined the Natural History Museum as Head of Interactive Media. Her role encompasses the responsibilities for the strategic direction and implementation of new technology to deliver the Museum’s cultural and scientific resources through the internet, mobile and new-media gallery installations.
